NFL Now App Launches for iOS

The National Football League pre-season is underway and the NFL wants fans to have a great experience no matter where they happen to be:  Home, Work, Stadium or on-the-go.  Today the NFL Now app has launched in the app store and it brings all the action of the NFL and your favourite team to your iPhone or iPad.  The app isn’t a streaming app but rather a repository of content and video to help you enjoy the NFL experience more than just simply watching the game itself.  But, with the NFL Now Plus in-app purchase you can get real time highlights of games in progress.

Yahoo! Gives Yahoo Sports a Major Update Just in Time for The NFL Playoffs

If you haven’t been paying attention, let me you in on a little secret.

Yahoo! is back and they have some great apps.

The company than many – including me – wrote off as dead just two years ago has come back with a vengeance, focusing on apps and services that continue to impress.  The latest update to Yahoo Sports is another fine example.

The update, released today, brings an all new iOS 7 look & feel to the app that brings you not only new and information about US centric sports but worldwide sports information.

One of the best new features of Yahoo Sports is the new Loops feature.  Think of it as an animated GIF that allows you

Yahoo Sports for iPhone

Yahoo Sports for iPhone

to add captions, effect and comments to a moment in a game.  While it is only available on select games on iPhone and best experienced with WiFi, the Loops feature gives you the creativity to create your own highlight of the game.

Other improvements and features include:

  • Clean, beautiful redesign for iOS7 with dozens of new features and improvements. If Brady and Gisele made a sports app, it might not be as good looking as this.
  • New team and player pages with cover photos and easy access to the latest news.
  • Improved football scores page with redzone and scoring play indicators.
  • Personalize your league nav in the order you want with the leagues you want. You’ll never have to look at [insert sport you don’t like] again!
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs and a few crashes. Sorry those were there in the first place.

Yahoo Sports is a free app and it is a universal app for both iPhone and iPad.  This new update requires that your device be running iOS 7.0 or later.

MLB At Bat update brings Ford SYNC integration for baseball fans

For fans of the National Pastime, September means that baseball is getting ready to go into the playoff stretch.  With most teams having less than 30 games to play on their schedules now, jockeying for a division title or Wild Card spot (do NOT get me started on the stupid 1-game Wild Card thing this year….) is now in full swing.

At the beginning of the season I reviewed the new MLB At Bat for iPhone and iPad and throughout the season the app has continued to improve.  The latest update came this weekend and there are a LOT of changes to get you ready for the post season.

First, the app now is able to integrate with Ford SYNC with AppLink equipped vehicles.  This means that At Bat users can get scores and schedules read to them thanks to the voice-activiation technology but can also have live audio broadcasts of games streamed to their Ford vehicle (must be an At Bat 12 subscriber).

Another big changes is the social network integration on video highlights.  Now you can post a link to a video highlight MLB At Bat 12 Social Network Sharing of Video Highlightsstraight from your iPhone or iPad to Facebook and Twitter or you can email or iMessage a link to someone.

Here are some of the other improvements or changes in this version of MLB At Bat:

  • New Hide Scores option for the scoreboard, team views and MLB.TV media player scoreboard overlay. Preference is set in app settings. (iPhone, iPad)
  • Re-designed news headline (iPhone only)
  • Improvements to box score accessibility (iPhone & iPad)
  • New MLB.TV video overlays for pitch and match-up data synched to video (iPad)
  • Tap the MLB logo in the top left to change teams in News, Highlights, and Favorite Team views (iPhone)
  • Maintenance improvements

The app itself is free and is a universal app.  You can get streaming audio and other big benefits by subscribing within the App to the MLB Season.  That is $2.99 per month or $9.99 for the season.  MLB.TV subscriptions are additional but are no sale right now for $10 for the rest of the regular season.

Who’s Your Caddy Unveils Revolutionary New Golf Mobile Application

Who’s Your Caddy, a free, cutting edge golf mobile application, is about to change the way golfers, golf courses, and advertisers view mobile apps. Not just another golf app, this mobile app is the first of its kind. A win-win-win for all parties involved: golfers, golf courses, and advertisers.

Who’s Your Caddy, created by parent company Red Mat Media, will be available in early April on iTunes, and by May 1 for Androids. Three key features set this product apart from other golf apps. First, Who’s Your Caddy is a Free mobile app for Who's Your Caddy Screenshotboth the golfer and the golf courses.

“Other golf apps can charge the course to be on the app. With Who’s Your Caddy, not only does the course not pay a cent for the app, it can also make revenue from it with our revenue share program. We create partnerships with golf courses and users, no other golf app can say that,” said Timothy Lyon, CEO of the parent company of Who’s Your Caddy, Red Mat Media.

Secondly, Who’s Your Caddy serves up “Gimmes” to its golfers. Gimmes are free gifts from businesses in the golfer’s neighborhood, such as a gift certificate to a restaurant. Golfers will be alerted of their free Gimme via a text while they are using their WYC unit during golf.
