How To: Reset the auto spelling dictionary on your iPhone or iPad

No matter how careful you are, at some point you end up with a word or two in the dictionary of your iPhone and iPad that just doesn’t belong.  The word is misspelled or has the wrong capitalization.  Whatever the reason it’s in there and if it is a word you use frequently, the having to correct it each time can be really frustrating, especially on-the-go.  Fortunately there is a way to delete these entries on both devices and it is a quick, 10 second fix and I’m going to show you how to do it.

Keep in mind that what I’m going to show you is a “nuclear” option.  That means that it is going to wipe out your entire dictionary and replace it with the default one that comes with iOS 4.2.  There is no way to just eliminate one word – it’s all or nothing.  Weigh that before doing this how to.
