Digital Handstand has announced the release of their Street Notes app for iPad, an app for collecting notes and ideas for travel destinations and using them as a personal travel guide. The Street Notes app lets anyone save personal favorites of great places, restaurants, and venues and arranges them beautifully on an interactive map. This app was specifically developed to assist the individual traveler, who rather trusts suggestions from friends, magazines and the concierge than “insiders’ tips” from tourist guides.
Street Notes for iPad assists users with keeping notes of great places to go, and tips from various sources, ordered by city, island, or travel region. On the way, Street Notes presents all the collected places for a certain destination as a personal and individual travel map.
To remember places later, users can enter and manage places information with annotations, pictures and bookmarks. Therefore it features powerful search capabilities for places details in multiple online databases such as Foursquare, Wikipedia or Apple MapKit. Street Notes simplifies searching and browsing for places-related information such as opening times with a built-in web browser without the constant need for switching between apps.
The iiFind app is a useful travel application that shows you everything that you need within your area, or between you and your next destination. When it comes to getting to your destination, the iiFind app keeps you on track and on-time and you will know exactly where to stop for fuel or a cup of coffee on the way!
This useful application provides you with the best route between your current location and your destination and with the simple press of a button, reveals all the amenities to you along the way. Each pinpoint is customized, making it easy for you to find the necessary facilities. Pins can be displayed either on the map itself so that you can see them in
relation to your current position or in a list for you to choose from. Phone numbers and website details are provided for each location, making it easy for you to make arrangements, should you need to schedule an important meeting at any of these locations.
One of the many things that I love about living in the London area is the Underground. It is a (mostly) fast way to navigate from one part of the city to another and it is a far lesser expensive alternative to driving and parking in London. But as anyone will tell you, you have to keep track of how particular lines and stations are doing in the London Underground to make sure your journey is a quick as possible.
Think Code Release has released an update to their app London Lines & Stations 1.4 for iPhone and iPod touch, now
optimised and fully redesigned to embrace the fresh new look & feel of iOS 7. London Lines & Stations is the perfect Underground, DLR and Overground passenger companion. A must-have for anyone who commutes or travels in London.
The London Lines & Stations app uses the official data feeds provided by Transport for London (TfL) to show in realtime the line and station status as well as live departure boards and weekend status. All using a simple and clean user interface. Besides, the app automatically calculates the nearest line and station based on the user’s current location and allows to see in a map the route to any selected station. Furthermore, all the stations can be quickly sorted by name, line or distance, and the user can save any station in the favourites section for easy access to its detailed information.
Key App Features:
* Live line and station status
* Live departure boards
* Weekend status
* Nearest line and station
* Route to station
* Real-time journey planner (powered by TfL)
* Quick search and sorting capabilities
* Extensive line and station details
* Simple and clean user interface
* Optimised for iOS 7
London Lines & Stations is a free app and available in the App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch
Air Lounge X Pty Ltd introduces Air Lounge X 1.0 for iOS. Air Lounge X’s founder and developer, Inga Birkedale, was inspired to create a new iPhone/iPad app after sitting for hours in the departure area of a foreign airport wishing that there was an airport lounge nearby. Little did she know there was a pay-per-use lounge less than 100 steps away. On discovery of the lounge (at boarding time) her partner suggested that she write an app listing all the lounges in the world so that they’d know where they could find them in the future. So she did.
Air Lounge X, launched today, is a directory of airport lounges throughout the world, with a focus on pay-per-use. There
are over 1500 lounges listed with 73 airlines featured and covers 141 countries and counting.
Travellers can see at a glance which lounges are available at each airport. (Symbols indicate whether they are pay-for-use lounges). The app will give you the lounge location, approximate entry costs and detail any pre-booking methods. Also included is information that is useful for Priority Pass members and links to related websites. Created for both iPhone and iPad.
Air Lounge X 1.0 is $9.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Travel category. It is a Universal App.
British Airways has updated their iPhone app and finally brings Passbook support to users. The UK-based airline has been one of the few left who haven’t introduced boarding passing being available through Passbook so it is good to seem them finally make it happen.
The new 4.5 update is available now and while the UI has also been redesigned a bit, the main functionality added is around Passbook. When you first start the app it highlights how to get your flights into Passbook & the Release Notes promise the future will include the ability to see your boarding passes on your iPhone Lock screen.
Here are the Release Notes
We have added boarding pass integration into Passbook.
From now on, all new boarding passes will be presented in Passbook. You’ll be able to download them from the app as usual and continue to use boarding passes on your iPhone in over 100 airports worldwide.
By mid June we’ll be enhancing Passbook boarding passes by adding direct links to them from your iPhone’s lock screen as you’re ready to fly. This will make it even easier for you to access your boarding pass on the move. We’ll send you a message via the app as soon as these are enabled.
Please note: If you are already logged into your Executive Club account, updating to this version may require you to log in again. As a result, we do not recommend updating the app on the day you are travelling.
We’ve also fixed a number of bugs and improved stability with this latest update.
The British Airways App is free and available now in the App Store
ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies, today announced the availability of ABBYY PhraseBooks for iOS, an application that helps travelers communicate in 6 languages including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Russian. It also allows them to quickly learn most common phrases for various occasions and feel at home when abroad and offline.
PhraseBooks for iOS offers an up-to-date language content grouped by ABBYY’s lexicographers into 11 topics, most vital for traveling. Each has a special Useful Words subgroup containing most popular words and phrases on the subject. All
phrases are voiced by native speakers and illustrated with descriptive, humorous visuals from the ABBYY designer team. Additionally, from within PhraseBooks users can send their own suggestions for ABBYY developers about new phrases or languages they find worthy of being included in the application.
“ABBYY PhraseBooks is there to help when you have to explain your needs or thoughts in a language you can’t speak freely”, explained Katya Solntseva, Director of Mobile Products Department at ABBYY. “Special exercises will also help you memorize useful everyday phrases while traveling or preparing for a trip abroad.”
To learn new words or collocations, a user adds them to the Learning list and runs the exercise they like the most. The Remember Translation exercise displays a learning card with an illustrated foreign phrase to be translated into user’s mother language, while in the “Remember audibly” exercise a phrase is voiced over. Statistical data, available in the end of each task, indicates one’s personal progress.
ABBYY PhraseBooks for iOS is $9.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide through the App Store in the Travel category. It is available under the localized titles, including ABBYY Frasari, ABBYY Sprachfuhrer and ABBYY Guides de conversation. Supported interface languages include English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Russian.

As a frequent business and pleasure flyer, I have an army of apps on my iPhone to help me through the process of getting a flight, a ticket and getting to my destination. One of those apps is SeatGuru and TripAdvisor – who own SeatGuru – have just released a nice update to the app which is available for free in the App Store.
The update, version 2.0 for those keeping score, brings significant improvements to the image quality of seating arrangements of hundreds of airlines and aircraft. In the old version it was very much pixelised and in a rush (translation:
working your way from one gate to another to catch your connection flight) was difficult to read. That is not the case with this update. Images are crisp and clear, taking full advantage of the iPhone 5′s extra screen real estate if you have one. In all there are over 350 image updates in this release, all of which are designed to help you understand the seating arrangement of an aircraft and the advantages or disadvantages of a particular seat.
This release also has Facebook integration so flyers can post photos from aircraft and seats to give you an even more realistic view of a seat assignment or aircraft. When you sign in to SeatGuru with your Facebook account you can also post reviews of seats or aircraft.
In all there are 20 airlines that have been updated in SeatGuru including American Airlines, British Airways, Frontier, United, US Airways, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM and Air Canada to name a few. Be sure to check out the release notes in the App Store to see the full list.
SeatGuru is a free app and is available in the App Store. It is designed for iPhone – sadly no iPad interface just yet.
American Airlines has released an update to arguably one of the best airline apps for iPhone and iPad users. The update comes on the heels of the branding of American Airlines this week with all new livery. American did a great job of quickly updating their iOS universal app to reflect not only the new icon of the airline but brought new features to their app at the same time.
With the update, iPhone users of the American Airlines app will have the ability to show their AAdvantage status card in Passbook. AAdvantage is American’s Frequent Flyer program. The app already supported boarding passes in Passbook
but now you can display your AAdvantage status for quicker access to the Admirals Club if you have a membership.
All of the features from before are still in the app including being able to book flights, check flight status, get airport information and of course check your AAdvantage status all from within the app. Having used several other airline apps in the past, I personally believe that American Airlines has one of the best (especially when you compare it to the really sad app that British Airways has made available :-\ )
The American Airlines app is a universal app so one download brings it to both your iPhone and iPad. The app itself is free but if you will need to join the AAdvantage program to gain access to the Passbook features now in the app as well as make reservations through the app.
For more information about the American Airlines AAdvantage program, visit the AAdvantage website.
